I had a temporary office, who when it is abolished, has no claim for compensation, under the clause for the Abolition of office, would be hard.
As regards the latter was by the regulations entitled to 2 months vacation leave, after 12 months service, and to allow that leave to accumulate, 2 years, such officers take 4 months leave, which I had intended to do, but shortly before the expiration of this 2 years service, that is on the 20th September 1870, I was informed, that the office would be abolished on the 30th November, up to which date I served and drew pay as Assistant Surveyor General.
I submitted a claim under the grounds least mentioned, to the consideration of the Lieut-Governor, before leaving Hong-Kong, who entertained it, but refused to ... it, but was assigned for so doing.
I may also add here as a further ground for the consideration of my claim the fact that since 1867, after my departure from Hong-Kong, it has been found necessary to appoint an Assistant Engineer in the Survey Dept.
